Episode 6: Challenge Accepted!!

Show Notes: September 2, 2012

Thank you to returning viewers and welcome to new viewers.  We love doing the show and love even more the support you have given us in our adventure(s).

Sue a.k.a. Craftyknitter7 on Ravelry

Kari a.k.a. JadedKnitter on Ravelry

You can find us on our blog, itunes, youtube, blip by entering Two Tangled Skeins.

Falling Leaves Socks, pattern complete, it is being test knit at the moment.  This is knit out Araucania Ranco Multi on size 2.25 mm (US1) needles.  The pattern should be available in the next 2 weeks.  Thanks for all the poking on Rav and in person everyone!

Hey Teach by Helene Rush which is availabe on Knitty.com.  This was knit out of Diamond Yarn Luxury Collection Silk Tweed.  Kari does not remember the needle size she used.

Wisp by Cheryl Niamath, knit out of JL Yarn Salvia in a blue-green color on 5.0 (US8) needles.  It is one of the first lace patterns I tried and my friend Selma wanted to start knitting lace….well lace and I are still not friends.

Strafford Tee which was knit out of Elizabeth Lavold Hempathy.  It was knit using 3.5 (US4) needles.  This top should have lace on the top of the front and back but like I said…lace and I…are not friends so I decided to simply keep knitting in stocking stitch.  I am not happy with the way the arms curl so I will be adding an edge of some sort and most likely be steeking the front to have a v-shaped opening.

Poking around on the needles:

Most of our projects are in snooze mode as we are not by any means monogamous knitters.  We keep switching from one project to another…

EvenStar Shawl, is knit out of Fleece Artist in the Saldahna Two colorway on 3.25 mm (US4) signature needles.  Not much has gotten done on it this week.

Brigit Jacket by Courtney Kelly, knit from the book Vintage Modern Knits.  Yarn is Briggs & Little Regal.  Needles are 5mm (US8), so this is going very fast.  Kari started this Friday evening at knit night, and told everyone she wants it done for Rhinebeck.  Well our dear friend Teresa told her it could not be done.  If anyone knows Kari like I do…that is a CHALLENGE and she is just a wee bit competitive…so she has the back completed and was onto the front when we recorded and now as I am typing out the notes she is half way done the front.  Yeah hence the title of the show...Challenge Accepted!

Color Affection…take 2!  Pattern is by Veera Valimaki.  This is knit on 4mm (US6) needles.  Yeah the Araucania (same yarn as Kari’s Falling Leaves socks) was not going well with my Choc colored yarn and I also found out from Kari that I would most likely not have enough for my shawl.  It got frogged and I am now onto the second color Chocolate Truffle, the first being Cascade Heritage in cream, and the third is my green from Cantrix.  I am wanting to have this done for Rhinebeck!

Socks on a Plane by Laura Linneman for a KAL with the Knit Me Happy group for Aug/Sept.  This is knit with Three Irish Girls yarn in the Brighton colorway using 2.5 mm (US1) needles.

Stash Enhancements this week:

Kari: Sue is destashing so some fiber came her way.  Huggybear Knits braid with different shades of pinks and browns. The other fiber is an unknown braid that has purples and greens in it.

Louet Wet Spun Linen: Euroflax yarn from Janie H. Knits shop which is sadly closing it’s doors after 6 years.  She is having a major mark down on all of her stock, so stop by before it is all gone. We are truly sad to see you go Janie and we will miss you!

Hand dyed sock yarn from Please Stand by Yarns who is our friend Lil known as Harpo716 on Raverly. She dyed me up a beautiful skein of black and green called Sesame Street Stripes: Oscar.  I absolutely love it and if I did not already have 3 pairs of socks on my needles it would have been cast on the day I got it.

I also got a prize for our Ravellinic games which was Shameless Twits.  It is totally my colors but when I got it, it had sparkles in it and I am not into sparkly yarn so I gave to Kari in trade for the Heritage she gave me for my shawl.

Sarah (Soho30) gave me a beautiful silk hankee from her class with Yarn Harlot.

Wheeling around”

Kari: No progress on the wheel this week or as she said Nada!

Sue:  I took out the wheel on Saturday (Sept. 1) and was cursing in the first 2 minutes…  I texted Kari to vent then went back to it and WOW it just happened…I got it and I was able to spin most of the non dyed fiber I had which was BFL, Shetland Wool, South African Wool and Organic Merino.

I am ready for the small child size batt green BFL fiber Kari gave me.  I will take a photo and post it.

Exciting News:  Road Trip to Rhinebeck in October.

Yep, just like that we made a last minute decision to go to Rhinebeck…

Kari, myself, Lynn (tollbaby) and Sarah (Soho30) will be making the trip…no classes..only shopping.  Yipeeee we will get to meet many podcasters that we watch, Emily from Whatcha Swatchin, Rachel from Knit Me Happy (I think she is coming), Leslie and Laura from The Knit Girllls, Carin from Round the Twist and Aimee from Knitting in Circles…and many more I hope!

Thanks for watching, happy knitting, happy spinning and see you next week!
